Wanderers JAB - Ian Biggs, Committee
Following on from an exceptionally great 2014 season which saw a number of Wanderers JAB field 14 teams consisting of 240 children, both boys and the ever increasing number of girls now joining in on the fun. Wanderers JAB looks forward to an even more boosted season in 2015, especially with the Rugby World Cup up for grabs again hosted by England.
The Wanderers JAB have a great management team behind them, assisted by the fact that most of them are coaches and managers of the teams. Along with the support from the senior management, senior players and even the wider rug-by community, this all helps to keep the wheels well oiled.
The junior’s season normally kicks off on registration night where all players who sign up on the night receive a free rugby ball, kindly sponsored by Charlie Taylor, “Taylors Con-tracting Company Limited”. From there the older players un-der 10’s and up are invited to join in on the pre-season train-ing run once a week where they can monitor their progress until their coach takes over team training. Also there are oth-er activities to start off the season like the ‘Milo’ sponsored breakfast with senior player interaction and individual team pre-season get together, some featuring different skills work-shops.
Once training and game days are upon us, players can enjoy the help and support from senior players, Makos players and even players from the past. A first from last season now sees our own development coach (and senior player) Jesse Pitman. Jesse is available to run or assist teams/ players and coaches with development throughout the season. He also runs workshops through the school holidays where the different grades are split on different times and days.
Like any sport, fundraising is a major part of any teams/ club survival. Along with many individual team events, Wanderers JAB have major events such as the inaugural “Wanderers Sports Club Pig Hunt” a great day for the whole family. Club day is another fun day, which sees the majority for the grades playing on home grounds with senior players having interaction with the juniors games and the juniors returning later in the day to support the seniors games. All day there are raffles and fundraising ventures happening all over.
Wanderers also pride their club on the great number of age grade representative players making the squads each sea-son. A great boost to the country teams.
Enjoyment - Education - Companionship - Involvement - Achievement are just some of the JAB goals.
